Homeowner Dana Klest faced major challenges in her crawlspace, including difficult access, water intrusion, rats, and disintegrating ductwork.
Situation:
Homeowner Dana Klest faced major challenges in her crawlspace, including difficult access, water intrusion, rats, and disintegrating ductwork. Improper drainage from the yard was forcing water into the crawlspace, creating the perfect climate for rot and mold. In addition, wood was found to be in contact with dirt, and a broken sewer line was also discovered. The 20+ year-old HVAC and water heater were also in desperate need of replacing.
Solution:
Southern Home Performance increased the crawlspace’s ease of access by widening the entry point. They also changed the drainage path of the yard to redirect water away from the house. Next, Southern Home Performance encapsulated the entire crawl space using a 14mil double reinforced poly vapor barrier, as well as closed cell spray foam insulation to eliminate water intrusion, eradicate rats, and separate wood surfaces from dirt. The disintegrating ductwork and dilapidated HVAC and water heater also were replaced with energy-efficient upgrades, and the sewer line was repaired.
Results:
“Southern Home Performance took care of all of our crawlspace problems,” said Dana. “Now my crawlspace is clean, dry, climate-controlled with energy-efficient services. My neighbors are never sure when I'll be inviting them in from the street to come take a tour of my beautiful crawlspace. The welcome mat is just inside the door!”
Using compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) instead of comparable incandescent bulbs can save approximately 50% on your lighting costs, use only one-fourth the energy and last up to 10 times longer.
